Our American Liberty Stories

As part of Liberty Amendments Month and the celebration of the nations 250th Anniversary, we are asking for and sharing photos and/or stories of becoming and being American. These photos and stories are from individuals and families who were native to this country or who journeyed here, whether willingly or not, and how they came to enjoy the rights as Americans guaranteed by the Liberty Amendments.
These American Liberty Stories describe where people came from and how they got here, what being American means to them, and/or how their American journey fits into the move from an imperfect republic to a more perfect union.
Do you have a photo and/or story to share? Submit anytime. Photos may be submitted with a brief explanation (1-3 sentences) or stories may be submitted along side multiple photos.
Stories received after May 15, 2026, will be a part of the 2027 project.
Not sure where to start? Use our story worksheet(PDF, 262KB) to guide you through the process. Need additional help contact us by email or at 703-255-6360.
