Conservation and Sustainability Commission

The Town of Vienna embraces its obligation to current and future generations to foster a healthy, safe and sustainable community. The Conservation and Sustainability Commission (CSC) helps the Town achieve these goals by addressing a broad range of energy, environmental and natural resources issues.

The CSC encourages residents, local businesses and the Town government to undertake conservation and sustainable practices. The CSC engages in education and outreach, develops community initiatives and plans and recommends policies and programs to the Town Council. The CSC is made up of 10 resident-members, including two student representatives.

Composting Drop-Off at Mill Street

After the successful Conservation and Sustainability Commission composting pilot initiative at the Vienna Farmer’s Market in 2024 and 2025, the Town of Vienna is excited to announce the opening of a permanent composting drop-off location at the 400 Block of Mill St NE adjacent to the existing purple glass recycling bin.  The composting drop-off site should be operational starting November 17, 2025.

Residents are encouraged to drop off their food scraps and other composting materials to this drop-off location and support Vienna's sustainability goals.  Composting is an easy and impactful way to keep organic waste out of our landfills and join us in making Vienna a greener and cleaner town!

Preserving and Managing the Town of Vienna’s Tree Canopy

The Conservation and Sustainability Commission undertook a volunteer effort to explore ways the Town of Vienna could enhance its ability to preserve and manage its tree canopy. We looked at how Vienna could retain, replace, and add trees, particularly in light of increasing teardown/new home development throughout the Town.
