Waste Collection - Heat Advisory Days

When the Town of Vienna is under a heat advisory, the Town will adjust the solid waste collection schedule to mitigate potential heat-related health risks to Public Works crews. When extreme heat is in the forecast, residents are asked to have items at the curb by 5 a.m. as collection will begin at 6 a.m. Thank you for your cooperation!

Waste Collection Holiday Schedule

Collection will not be scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year's Day. When a regular trash collection day is missed because of an observed holiday or mechanical difficulties, collection of trash and recycling only will be rescheduled for the next collection day for that week. Brush, yard waste and bulk collection will resume the next week on the regularly scheduled day. Rescheduling information will be listed in the Town Calendar and on our website.

Public Works Day

Public Works Day this year is Thursday, May 20, 2027, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Northside Property Yard (600 Mill St., NE).  This event is held rain or shine.

Public Works Day is held in May each year at the Northside Property Yard. Tour the facility to get an up-close look at the heavy machinery and meet the employees. Designed for all ages, light refreshments will be served.

Town of Vienna Bikeshare

Vienna now has five fully operational Capital Bikeshare docking stations stocked with rentable bicycles, offering community members a new, sustainable and convenient way to get around town and neighboring jurisdictions.  The stations are located at Navy Federal Credit Union, the Vienna Community Center, the intersection of Maple Avenue and Nutley Street, the intersection of Patrick and Park streets, and at the W&OD Trail crossing at Ayr Hill Avenue.

The stations add 26 standard bicycles and six pedal assist electric bicycles that riders can rent and return to any station in Capital Bikeshare’s expansive network of stations in the national capital area.

Fairfax County government oversees bicycle and station operations and maintenance through a multijurisdictional contract with Lyft, which currently manages the Capital Bikeshare system across eight jurisdictions in the region. To learn more about the program and ways to report bikes that have not been returned or parked correctly, call DPW at 703-255-6380, visit Capital Bikeshare DC, or call Capital Bikeshare at 877-430-2453.
