Safer Streets Through Education: E-Bike Safety and Enforcement
In May 2026 the Vienna Police Department began its "Safer Streets Through Education" initiative, focusing on e-bike safety, awareness, and enforcement.
The goal is to educate riders, parents, and concerned residents on how to identify and safely operate various types of e-bikes. To achieve this goal, the department launched a social media campaign and encouraged our officers to make contact with riders.
Through these contacts, officers have educated riders on laws involving e-bikes, spoken to parents and guardians, and in some cases removed unsafe or illegal bikes from the roadway.
The social media campaign has been geared towards educating the public on a variety of topics including e-bike classification, helmet safety, W&OD Trail rules, and more.
Below you can find the campaign posts, media releases, and the Code of Virginia and Code of the Town of Vienna to help you better understand safe and lawful e‑bike and bicycle use.
