Liberty Amendments Month Calendar 2025

The Town of Vienna's fifth annual Liberty Amendments Month (LAM) starts on June 14 and runs through July 14, 2025.  Each week focuses on one of the Constitutional amendments that extends rights and liberties to U.S. citizens who originally were excluded from the Constitution.

Juneteenth and Liberty Amendments Day will be observed on Thursday, June 19.  Town offices will be closed that day.

Our American Liberty Stories- Is there a story that you or your family members tell over and over about your family history? We want to hear your stories about your country, your journey to citizenship, your family’s history, or what it means to you to be American or live in America. We are looking for stories from individuals and families who were native to this country or who journeyed here, whether willingly or not, and how they came to enjoy the rights as Americans guaranteed by the Liberty Amendments. Submit stories for the 2026 project at any time and get more information at the link above.

Liberty Amendments Month Logo Mural
This summer is your last chance to visit the Center Street side of thePatrick Henry Libraryfor a look at the very special, temporary, Liberty Amendments Month mural presented by the Fairfax County Public Libraries, the Vienna Public Art Commission and the Vienna Business Association. The mural was unveiled in 2022 and will remain on the library's facade until the building undergoes renovations starting sometime in the summer of 2025.

Note: construction fencing may be up when you visit the mural, please keep a safe distance from the fencing and any construction work being done and enjoy the mural from the sidewalk.

The mural was funded by the Friends of the Patrick Henry Library and the Vienna Public Art Foundation.


Voter Registration and Resources-The League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area will be registering voters and providing information about "What's on your ballot 2024" at Juneteenth (pg. 4), and other LAM events. Check this page for updates.Emmaus United Church of Christ will also be at these events leading a non-partisan ‘Get Out the Vote effort to mail postcards to infrequent voters encouraging them to vote in the upcoming election and providing information on polling places. The country has a very important election coming and this non-partisan information will get our community ready to vote!


Liberty Amendments Museum Exhibits, Flashcard Quiz, and Learning Tours- Featuring history on the 13th, 14th, 15th and 19th Constitutional Amendments, these exhibits, games and signs are on display inside and outside at the Freeman Store and Museum and Vienna Community Center each week June 14- July 14.


African American Historic Sites Tour of Vienna- A self -guided tour of the contributions of Vienna's African Americans from 1867-2006 compiled by longtime residents Sylvia Taylor and Gloria Runyon. To take the walking tour, follow this link.
