The Town of Vienna plans a variety of fun and interesting day trips for adults ages 55+. Enjoy museum and garden tours, performances, flower shows and more. All trips for adults ages 55+ depart from the Vienna Community Center. Bus trips include gratuity for drivers. Register for trips via WebTrac, using the trip number, or in person at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street, SE.
All of our trips feature activity level icons as guides to the type of itinerary and level of challenge you can expect to encounter while traveling with us. Please refer to the Programs and Events Guide for the activity level for each trip so you can make sure you find the right trip for you. Fall trips
Gettysburg National Park
Wednesday, October 22
9 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
For three days in 1863, Union and Confederate forces met on the fields, hills and ridges of Gettysburg in the turning-point battle of the American Civil War. Today, the 6,000-acre battlefield includes more than 1,300 monuments, markers and memorials to tell the story of the battle and the men who fought there. Before heading out to the "great battlefield," we will start our visit with the Film, Cyclorama. We'll then step aboard our motor coach, visit iconic landmarks and explore the battlefield with our licensed battlefield guide. The tour provides historical context and commentary while the bus is in motion or at designated stops. Lunch will be on your own prior to our Battlefield visit at Garryowen Irish Pub offering authentic Irish food paired with traditional pub fare.

Washington D.C. Fall Foliage Lunch Cruise (this trip is full)

"A Christmas Carol" at Ford's Theatre (this trip is full)

Holiday Tea at Crest Hill Tea Room

Crest Hill Tea Room is an English style tearoom in The Plains, Va. We will enjoy a holiday themed menu to highlight seasonal flavors including assorted tea sandwiches, tea bread, cookies, fruits, scones, and tea. This tradition is a great way to celebrate the holidays with a touch of elegance and warmth.

Gunston Hall

Gunston Hall was built between 1755 and 1759. The plantation home of George Mason, a key figure in the American Revolution, located in Mason Neck, Virginia. George and Anne Mason's stylish home showcased the Mason's wealth and prominence. During our guided Mansion tour, we will explore the complexities of Col. Mason's life as a family man, community leader, and founding father, and discover the lives of all the people who lived at Gunson Hall. Lunch will be on your own at Glory Days Grill.

Gadsby's Tavern

Gadsby's Tavern Museum in Alexandria, Va. consists of two buildings, aca. 17785 tavern and the 1792 City Tavern and Hotel. In those seven short years, the young Republic began to take shape through the conversations and choices being made in these tavern spaces. Named for Englishman John Gadsby who operated them from 1796 to 1808, the tavern businesses were central to Alexandria's port-based economy, offering spaces to dine, entertain, and spend the night. Notable patrons that enjoyed this hospitality included George and Martha Washing, Thomas Jefferson, and the Marquis De Lafayette. We will explore life in the new Republic and learn more about the many people of the tavern with an expert guide. We will enjoy a rich and flavorful plated lunch in one of the elegant Colonial dining rooms of the historic Gadsby's Tavern. Lunch is included in the trip fee. Please note: About 70% of the Gadsby's tour involves ascending /descending 1-2 flights of stairs; unfortunately, there is no elevator.

"Liberty or Death"-Historic Richmond
Thursday, March 12

St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia, is one of America's most important historic sites, where-swayed by Patrick Henry's powerful argument-the delegates made a decision that changed the course of history, lighting the spark of the War for Independence. We will join Patrick Henry inside St. John's Church as he tells the story of his life and government in colonial Williamsburg. We will witness Henry's most famous speech "Give me liberty, or Give me death!' inside the place where it happened. Our next stop will be the Capitol of Virginia for a guided tour. The Capitol of Virginia was designed in 1785 by Thomas Jefferson. It is the first American State Capitol designed after the Revolutionary War and the first public building in the New World to be constructed in the form of a classical Roman temple. A plated lunch at Tarrant's Downtown is included the trip fee. This trip requires a significant amount of walking and standing.

"Little Women" at Riverside Theatre

Riverside Center for the Performing Arts in Fredericksburg, Virginia, is staging the production of "Little Women: The Musical" based on Louisa May Alcott's classic novel and follows the lives of the March sisters as they navigate love, ambition, and loss. The musical features songs like "Sometimes When you Dream," "More Than I am," and Take a Chance on Me." Before the show we will enjoy a three-course, chef prepared meal. The ticket price includes transportation, the meal and the show.
