The Town of Vienna plans a variety of fun and interesting day trips for adults ages 55+. Enjoy museum and garden tours, performances, flower shows and more. All trips for adults ages 55+ depart from the Vienna Community Center. Bus trips include gratuity for drivers. Register for trips via WebTrac, using the trip number, or in person at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street, SE.
All of our trips feature activity level icons as guides to the type of itinerary and level of challenge you can expect to encounter while traveling with us. Please refer to the Programs and Events Guide for the activity level for each trip so you can make sure you find the right trip for you. The 250th anniversary of the American Revolution has arrived, and it promises to be among the most significant commemorations in the nation's history. Join us in celebrating America’s 250th birthday by visiting historic sites, witnessing reenactments, and touring the residences of individuals who played a pivotal role in gaining our independence.
Spring Trips
Lady Camellia & Tall Ship Providence Dockside Tour (this trip is full)
Wednesday, May 6
11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Enjoy beautiful waterfront scenery in Old Town Alexandria, a lovely spot for our afternoon tea at Lady Camellia to include tea sandwiches, scones, croissants, pastries and choice of tea. After our tea we will walk to the Alexandria dock to climb aboard the original Tall Ship Providence for a historical dockside tour of the ship. Travel back in time to 1776 where you will join the crew, meet Captain John Paul Jones, and begin your training as a member of the Continental Navy. We will visit the quarterdeck, the main deck, the captain’s cabin, and the hold. After disembarking, we will head to the Naval History Theater for an exclusive showing of the short film, Providence: Dawn of the US Navy, produced especially for Tall Ship Providence and featuring four subject matter experts and many beautiful shots of the ship at sea. Please note: There are a few steps that must be climbed down at the end of the ship’s gangway to board the ship. Climbing ladders are the only way to move between the decks.

Monticello (this trip is full)

Come with us to Charlottesville, Va. and delve into the life, interests, achievements, and legacies of the U.S.'s 3rd President-Thomas Jefferson. Our guided experience includes first floor spaces in Thomas Jefferson’s home, the West Lawn, and the South Wing. We will learn about Jefferson and his vision for America, the realities of slavery on the Monticello plantation, and the mountaintop’s iconic architecture. There will be time on your own to join one of these other tours with your ticket: The Slavery at Monticello Tour and Seasonal Gardens & Grounds Tour. Lunch will be on your own at the Monticello Café featuring grab-and-go options and made-to-order sandwiches, salads, shareable plates, and desserts. This trip requires a significant amount of walking on mixed surfaces of brick, asphalt, and crushed gravel.

Philadelphia 250

Join us in celebrating our nation’s historic milestone and explore the history and global impact of the Declaration of Independence from 1776 to today. Our day in Philadelphia will include docent-led guided tours at the National Constitution Center, Independence Hall and the Museum of the American Revolution. Lunch will be on your own at the Delegate's Cafe. This trip requires a significant amount of walking. Individuals must be able to keep up with the group. Transportation will be a 55-passenger coach bus with a restroom.

Benjamin Banneker Historical Park & Museum

The Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum is a 126.6-acre site dedicated to telling the inspiring story of the life and times of Benjamin Banneker, often considered the first African-American man of science. He was famous as an 18th-century free African-American astronomer, mathematician, surveyor, and abolitionist, renowned for building America's first wooden clock, accurately predicting a solar eclipse, publishing popular almanacs, and assisting in the survey of Washington, D.C. Our guided tour includes Banneker’s life and accomplishments, seeing artifacts, a reproduction cabin and orchard. Lunch will be on your own at Double T Diner.

"A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" @ Olney Theatre

"In Pursuit of Life, Liberty & Happiness" at the National Museum of American History

The "In Pursuit of Life, Liberty & Happiness" exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History is a grand celebration of America's 250th anniversary. The exhibition spans three floors and 300,000 square feet, featuring 250 significant objects, including the desk used by Thomas Jefferson to draft the Declaration of Independence and the only surviving ship of the early U.S. Navy, the gunboat Philadelphia. This National Historic Landmark, which helped stall British forces, is undergoing on-site conservation to preserve it for future generations. You will have a variety of Museum Cafes on site to choose from on your own.

"Summer" at Toby's Dinner Theatre

Mature Adult Adventure Daze (M.A.A.D.)

Do you still have the adventurous spirit you had when you were a kid? If you are an active older adult who finds joy in the outdoors and nature, then these exciting trip experiences are just for you! Each trip we will spend time experiencing a wide range of dynamic activities. Come have fun, form friendships and be ready to try something new! Fee includes transportation (provided by a 12-passenger van), a morning snack and water, and a M.A.A.D. swag item. Some trips include physically challenging activities. Be aware of your fitness, health status, and skill level before registering for these trips and always consult your doctor before beginning a new program, especially if you have any chronic or recurring conditions. These trips are limited to the first 10 participants, so register early!

Their mission is to provide a family-friendly environment offering a forum for people to learn and practice the skills of archery. Guided Kayak Nature Paddle

Join us for a guided paddle exploring scenic local waterways. This beginner-friendly program includes a short onshore introduction to kayaking skills and safety before we head out to glide along quiet shorelines and observe the natural surroundings. Earth & Sky Outdoor Exhibition at Museum of the Shenandoah Valley

Earth & Sky Sculptures by Marguerite Elliot features large-scale metal sculptures that explore environmental concerns in powerful and thought-provoking ways. Elliot grew up on a small farm in Shenandoah Valley, an early connection to the natural world that continues to influence her work. The outdoor exhibition includes nine striking installations, from towering sentinels to twisted Medusa Trees, highlighting the loss of birds and forests. We will have a curator-led discussion on the exhibition and gardens. Lunch will be on your own at Golden Corral.
