Federal and state elections in November

November 3 General Election
Town of Vienna residents' polling location for state and national elections depends upon their address. To check your polling location, visit the Virginia Department of Elections website and enter your address. Polling locations are open 6 am-7 pm on Election Day.

Please note that all elections in the Town of Vienna are managed by the Fairfax County Office of Elections. Thus, questions are best directed to that office at 703-222-0776.

Absentee Ballots/Early Voting
Registered Virginia voters may vote absentee via in-person early voting or by absentee ballot via mail. Ballots are available beginning September 18. Virginia no longer requires reason codes for absentee in-person/early voting or absentee by-mail voting. You must submit an application to vote absentee by mail, but NOT for in-person/early absentee voting. Important dates

  • September 18 Absentee in-person/early voting begins at the Office of Elections, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax
  • October 13 Voter Registration Deadline. In-person: 5 pm; online: 11:59 pm
  • October 14 Absentee in-person/early voting satellite locations open
  • October 23 Deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail, 5 pm
  • October 31 Final day for absentee in-person/early voting, 5 pm
  • November 3 Deadline to hand-deliver absentee ballots to Office of Elections is 7 pm
  • November 6 Deadline for mailed absentee ballots to be received by Office of Elections is noon. Ballots must be postmarked no later than November 3.

General Election Information
Virginia holds a general election every year on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November. Federal offices are elected in even-numbered years; state and local offices are elected in odd-numbered years. Elections and polling locations in the Town of Vienna are managed by the Fairfax County Office of Elections, which may also be reached at 703-222-0776. 

Virginia law requires that all voters show one acceptable form of identification.

Town Elections in May

Town elections are held each year on the first Tuesday in May. Voting takes place at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street SE. Polls are open 6 a.m.-7 p.m. Voters elect three councilmembers each year and the mayor during even numbered years. Voter registration for Town elections
You are eligible to vote in the Town's election if you are a Vienna resident, at least 18 years old by election day, and a U.S. citizen. You may register to vote in person at the Fairfax County General Registrar's Office at the County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, or by mail. Applications are available in the Town Clerk's Office, all public libraries, other locations around the county, and online.
