Requesting Confirmation of a Case

Police Incident Reports often contain personal, sensitive or confidential information about the event or parties involved. To preserve the privacy of personal information and to protect criminal investigations, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act generally protects those reports from public disclosure. Consequently, a copy of a Police Investigation Reports will not be released without a court order or unless otherwise authorized by law. 

If you are the victim or complainant in a case investigated by the Vienna Police Department, the records section will provide you with a confirmation report of that case at no charge. It is best to call ahead at (703) 255-6366 to request a copy and then pick up the confirmation report in person, with valid government-issued photo identification. 

The Verification of Police Report will contain the following information:
- Case Number
- Reporting Officer
- Date of report
- Name of complainant/owner
- Location of incident
- Property loss, if applicable
- A brief summary of the incident

Requesting an Accident Report

If you were involved in a crash that is reportable, we can provide you with a copy of the DMV report made by the officer at no charge. 

Citizens involved in the crash must appear in person at 215 Center Street South, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. These reports are not available for at least ten (10) business days after the incident. Please bring valid government-issued photo identification.

Requesting a Criminal History Report

Criminal history reports provide an individual with a local records check on his or her own records. The report provides all adult conviction data listed in Vienna's records system (this does not include a county, state or national check). There is no charge for this service. You must at least 18 years of age to request the report and present photo identification. Note: This report is not able to be delivered via fax.

Requests Submitted by Companies and Firms

Insurance companies and law firms can obtain reports for $3 per copy, and checks should be made payable to the Town of Vienna. Law firms must submit a letter confirming they represent one of the parties involved to the records clerk at:
