Portable Storage Containers
Permit Information
At its August 17, 2009 meeting, the Town Council adopted a $25 permit fee for the placement of portable storage containers in residential zones. (Commercial and industrial zones would be part of site plan review.) All portable storage containers now must have a permit and for a maximum time period of 30 days in any consecutive 12-month time period, except for bona-fide construction activity.

Applying for a Permit

Town Code

If a valid building permit is in effect, a container may remain up to six months within any 12-month time period, but must meet the following guidelines:
  • The dimensions of all containers cannot exceed 16 feet in length, eight feet in width, nor eight feet in height.
  • All containers must be located on private property on a paved surface or driveway, except where a building permit has been issue.
  • There are a number of these containers currently around town.  Some have remained for much longer than 30 days.

All such containers are temporary in nature and will not be grandfathered by virtue of these changes to the Town Code.
