Vehicle Maintenance Division

The Vehicle Maintenance Division is committed to providing a safe, efficient and dependable fleet for all departments within the Town government.  

The Vehicle Maintenance Division performs all phases of repairs, preventive maintenance and state inspections on all Town-owned vehicles and equipment in a manner which minimizes equipment down-time and the impact on services provided to citizens. 

This division is responsible for formulating and maintaining the Vehicle Replacement Program ensuring the acquisition and disposal of the fleet in the most cost effective manner possible. They are responsible for determining equipment and vehicles best suited for current needs, reviewing specifications with using department and determining most cost effective procurement.   The Vehicle Replacement Program ensures a reliable fleet, improving efficiency, reducing maintenance cost, and ensuring the best possible return on resale value.  Vehicles and equipment at the end of their useful life are sold through the on-line auction website GovDeals.

Training is the key to providing quality service. All mechanics and support staff are trained and opportunities to develop and enhance their skills and knowledge are provided. The Town facility is a licensed State Inspection Station.

This division maintains records to ensure compliance with the Commonwealth of Virginia Emissions Program, Weldon Cooper Survey for submission to VDOT to meet reporting requirements of the Federal Highway Administration, and for submission to FEMA for declared disasters.

A citizen automotive recycle program for collection of used motor oil, antifreeze, and automotive batteries is supervised by this division.
