Best Cities for Young Families in Virginia - 2015, Nerd Wallet

Nerd Wallet has listed the Town of Vienna as 4 in their 2015 list of "Best Cities for Young Families in Virginia." Vienna was recognized for having an incredible value for housing dollar. The town earned a GreatSchools ranking of 8, and over 36% of households are families with children, nearly double the statewide average. More Information

Best Places to Live - 2013, CNN Money Magazine
CNN's Money Magazine ranked the Town of Vienna as third in their 2013 list of "Best Places to Live." The site says the listing is not just about places with strong economies, but also places "you could want... to raise a family: plenty of green space, good schools, and a strong sense of community."

The Town of Vienna was recognized for a strong sense of community through "walkability, a historic center, and unique businesses" that make Vienna unique. The article listed the Town Green, access to the Old Dominion and Washington Trail and the atmosphere of Church Street as key community assets. Vienna was also recognized as being a small and intimate town with easy access to the big city. More Information

Certified Green Government, Silver Certificate - 2013
VMLlgoC1.jpgThe Town was awarded the Silver Certificate from the Virginia Municipal League's 2013 Green Government Challenge at the VML Annual Conference in Arlington, VA for the emissions reducing efforts made by the Town. Vienna was recognized for achieving 135 points out of a possible 200 "green points."

The green efforts highlighted by the award included strong waste management, land-use and transportation policies, high community participation and involvement, and innovative programs that support a greener community including the community garden project at Vienna Elementary School, the annual Vienna Green Expo, the Sustainable Home and Garden tour, the Green Homes Initiative, the Green Business Recognition Award, leaf mulching and delivery, purchasing local organic projects, creating green gardens and recycling options. Town employees have also implemented a number of on-the-job green programs such as office paper recycling, use of earth-friendly cleaning products and purchase of hybrid vehicles. More Information

Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
GFOAFor the 26th year in a row, the Town of Vienna has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for Excellence in Financial Reporting in its Comprehensive Financial Report ending June 30, 2012. The report was reviewed by a third party financial team and the result represents the Town's dedication to transparency through financial reporting.

According to the GFOA, "The awards stress practical, documented work that offers leadership to the profession and promotes improved public finance." More Information

Top-Earning Towns - 2013, CNN Money Magazine
CNN's Money Magazine has listed the Town of Vienna as 24 in their 2013 list of "Top-Earning Towns." The magazine describes the list as places to live when you know you have made it. The Town is growing in terms of population, median family income and home real-estate value, as well as key community events such as the Halloween Parade and ViVa Vienna. More Information

Vienna was recognized by NerdWallet as the number two Best City in Virginia for Young Families. NerdWallet considered public school standardized test scores, affordability including real estate taxes, insurances costs, utilities, fuels and other monthly bills, and the community’s local economy and compiled a list of the best communities in Virginia for young families. More Information

Best Places in Virginia for Job Seekers - 2013, NerdWallet
NerdWallet has recognized the Town of Vienna as the number two Best Place in Virginia for Job Seekers. The ranking was based off the criteria of population growth between 2009 and 2011, the median household income and the unemployment rate. According to their research, Vienna qualifies for the number two spot with a six percent population increase and equal unemployment rate, as well a median family income of more than $115,000.

Certified Green Government, Gold Certification - 2012, Virginia Municipal League
Go Green
The Town participated in the Virginia Municipal League's Green Government Challenge and earned 155 out of a possible 200 "green points" and as a result was awarded Gold Certification.  The award was received in recognition of the Town's effort to reduce carbon emissions and our impact on the environment including the community garden project at Vienna Elementary School, annual Green Expo, purchasing local organic products, creating green gardens and recyling options.  In addition, employees have implemented a number on-the-job green programs including paper recycling, user of earth-friendly cleaning products and the purchase of hybrid vehicles.
