Mill Street reconstruction project gets underway April 11

Work to reconstruct the pavement structure along Mill Street and upgrade three drainage structures is scheduled to get underway April 11. The project may require up to six weeks to complete.

The road construction project will extend from Ayr Hill Avenue to 430 Mill Street.

While temporary lane or road closures will occur as necessary, access to businesses and parking areas along Mill Street will be maintained at all times. In order to minimize duration of the project and its overall impact on the corridor, much of the work will continue overnight. Traffic control measures will be used 24 hours/day as needed.

Those not traveling to Mill Street businesses are encouraged to find other routes. Mill Street business customers and visitors are asked not to park on portions of the road that are closed. No utility disruptions are anticipated.

The Town is contracting with Ardent Company of McLean to undertake the reconstruction project, which will be completed in five phases:

  • Phases 1 and 3, combined, extend along the north side of Mill Street within the project area.
  • Phase 2 extends along the entire south side of the roadway.
  • Phase 4 repairs the Ayr Hill intersection.
  • Phase 5 resurfaces the entire project area.

“This is going to be a big project,” says Project Engineer Luis Blandon, “and we know it will be somewhat disruptive to the Mill Street businesses and their customers. We really appreciate their patience and cooperation. This repair project is badly needed, and the Town is committed to completing it as effectively and efficiently as possible.”
