Emphasis on Community Service in 2012

Posted on January 3, 2012 at 1:51 PM by Kirstyn Barr

I am writing this brief message to further the theme I wrote of in the September Town Newsletter last year. But before I begin, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and I hope everyone has a good and prosperous 2012.

The 2011 year was full of many events and the one I wrote of in September 2011 honored Sam Savia, a tremendous volunteer who dedicated 70 years of service to the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department. Unfortunately, as many of you know, Sam passed away a few days before the Christmas Holiday. He will be missed by many family and friends, myself included.

What that means; however, is that as we go into 2012 we should emulate the standard for community involvement set by Sam and make a commitment to further our community volunteer efforts. Our country, our commonwealth and our community are still facing some of the effects of a struggling economy and there are ways we all can help and be of service to those in need. Everyone contributing in big or small ways will make a difference. So, please consider volunteering to help our community during the course of the year. It is only through service to each other do we really survive and prosper.

Happy New Year!
