Shop Vienna

Posted on November 1, 2011 at 9:37 AM by Kirstyn Barr

Whether you consider shopping a mood enhancer (as in “retail therapy”) or a political statement (anyone else remember the grape boycott?) or simply another in a series of necessary chores, here is a new way to look at it: Shopping as a Community Event. November is bringing two opportunities for us to support Vienna by supporting its local businesses.

The first is “Vienna Business Saturday” on November 26—the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Vienna’s Town/Business Liaison Committee is organizing our first “Vienna Business Saturday”, developing publicity and promotions highlighting the many fine businesses in Town. So after the “big box” store experience of Black Friday, plan to enjoy the “small town” experience of shopping in Vienna on Saturday (you won’t have to get up nearly as early, or risk misplacing your car in the mall parking lot). Look for posters around Town and links on the Town’s website for more information as the day draws near.

Next up is the annual “Church Street Stroll” on Monday, November 28. This is the night that Santa arrives at the Freeman Store and the Town’s holiday tree is lit. Church Street NW from Mill Street to Lawyers Road will be a pedestrian mall for the evening, letting us visit the businesses along our historic main street at a leisurely pace. This is a great family-friendly event and a fun Vienna tradition.

Our businesses are a vital part of what makes our Town distinctive and a desirable place to live. Please make a special effort to support them this holiday season!
