To Use LED or Not to Use LED, That is the Question

Posted on March 4, 2014 at 10:38 AM by Kirstyn Barr

This weekend, our family did research on energy saving lighting alternatives and we see a remarkable change in LED technology. Now, LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are made for residential and commercial use, even into your existing fixture. They are becoming more affordable and offer many long-lasting and interesting options that traditional incandescent (some sizes are being phased out of production by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007) and fluorescent bulbs could not do. Learn About LED basics through Energy Star or your favorite lighting source. I highly recommend taking a bit more time in your next trip to the lighting aisle to check out these options and even save some “green” while being a “green” citizen.

In fact, the Town Hall was featured in Virginia Town and City (on page 12) for the recent renovation and HVAC replacement, incorporating some of these new LED technologies. We thank the Town staff and citizens for the necessary accommodations made during the renovations, but trust that it was well worth temporary inconveniences during construction. I am looking forward to seeing more offerings in future projects around Town.

Speaking of green, if you would like some more ideas around your home or business, mark your calendars for the Green Expo coming to the Vienna Community Center April 24, 2014. This event is for all ages and is thanks to the sustained dedication of the Community Enhancement Commission and the Town of Vienna Parks and Recreation department. Hope to see you there!
