Elves in Vienna: Town Crews Keep the Town Running

Posted on December 17, 2013 at 12:43 PM by Kirstyn Barr

November and December have been brutal months for the Town's crews.  While most of us were enjoying a Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends, Water and Sewer crews were out repairing broken and leaking water lines.  One crew in my neighborhood started working Thanksgiving eve and finished Thanksgiving night.  This cold weather has continued and so have the broken water lines.

And then there was the snow.  Public Works and Parks and Recreation crews were out sanding, salting and plowing Vienna's streets.  But, what happened to the leaf pickup?  That had to be dealayed until the crews could get past the snow and broken tree limbs.

One little girl asked me if elves did the holiday decorating at the Town Green.  The answer is that the elves are all Parks and Recreation workers who put up all the decorations on Maple Avenue, Church Street and the Town Green.  They also manned the fires for roasting marshmallows and handing out hot chocolate at the Holiday Stroll.

Town crews are often not seen but their work is an important service to our citizens.

So a big holiday 'shout out' to all the guys and gals who make Vienna the special place we call home!
