Will your trash collection day change after July 2?

Posted on June 7, 2012 at 2:53 PM by Kirstyn Barr

This month will be the final month that we will collect trash, recycling and special pickups on separate days each week.  Beginning July 2, the Town will implement the new refuse collection program where everything will be picked up on one day a week in each of five newly created districts and no one will ever have to call and schedule a Special Pickup again. I am excited about this new refuse collection program and I believe it will be successful and more cost effective for all of us.

Since all of your household trash, recycling, brush and bulk items will be collected on one day each week, a special recycling decal was included in your June Town of Vienna Newsletter for you to place on your permanent recycling container.  This will help our crews distinguish between refuse and recyclable materials.  If you need additional decals, please stop by the Public Works Department in Town Hall during regular business hours.

With this new program, your collection day may have changed.  You can view the May and June Town Newsletters for information on the new districts, or view the new collection route map online.  Be sure to circle your new collection day on your calendar to be ready for the new program!

As with any new program or initiative, many questions are often raised.  In an effort to address these questions, staff has developed a Frequently Asked Questions page on the Town's website, as well as a comprehensive description of the new program.  In addition, you can watch this short video explaining the new program.   If you have any other questions, please contact the Department of Public Works at (703) 255-6380.

I wish everyone a happy and safe summer!
