VIENNA VEHICLE DECALS
Effective April 15, 2008 Vienna residents do not need to display or purchase a Vienna vehicle decal.

Vienna residents still need to register car disposals or purchases with Fairfax County, as Fairfax County administers the Personal Property Tax on vehicles. This can be done on their web site at fairfaxcounty.gov/dta, or call 703-222-8234.

Town residents must pay County personal property tax on motor vehicles. Personal property tax returns must be filed with the County Office of Assessments by May 1 of each year, or within 60 days of buying or selling a vehicle or when there is a change of address. Personal property tax forms are available at Town Hall for the convenience of Town residents. However, the Town is not responsible for notification or collection of personal property taxes. For more information about Fairfax County personal property taxes, call 703-222-8234. The Town of Vienna does not levy a personal property tax.

A property owner may store one inoperative motor vehicle outdoors on the property for the purpose of restoration for a period not to exceed six months, after first getting the approval from the Department of Planning and Zoning, then obtaining from the Finance Department a special stored vehicle license plate and payment of $50. One inoperative vehicle may be kept without a storage tag under a car cover; additional vehicles may be kept only if housed in a fully enclosed structure.

If you have an older vehicle you would like to get rid of, a number of local charities will gladly accept it, including the National Kidney Foundation of the National Capital Area inc., 202-244-7900; The Salvation Army, 703-642-9270; Best Buddies, 1-800-213-8800; and Goodwill Industries, 202- 636-4225. By donating your vehicle to any of these organizations, you will be able to claim a tax deduction for the value of the vehicle. Once you get rid of any vehicle, let the Town of Vienna and Fairfax County know so the vehicle can be deleted from the files.
