Town Of Vienna Fence Permits
The Town of Vienna requires home-owners to obtain a permit before erecting a fence on their property. The
fence permit application must be accompanied by two plats of the property showing the location of the proposed fence and a $15 fee.
On interior lots, a fence may be erected to a maximum height of four feet in front of the house and six feet beside and behind the house.
On corner lots, a fence may be erected to a maximum height of six feet except in the following locations:
- A fence built within 25 feet of the property line abutting the side street may be no more than four feet high.
- That part of the fence built within 25 feet of the corner may be no more than three feet high.
- If the house behind yours faces the side street, your back fence may be no more than four feet high from the front of your neighbor's house to your property line at the street. (If the two houses are back to back, then your back fence may be six feet high along the entire rear property line.)
All fences must be constructed within the property lines. The posts and supports must face inward toward your house, and the finished side must face outward toward the street or abutting property.
Remember, fence permits are required before construction begins. For more information and assistance, call the Planning and Zoning Department at 703-255-6341.
Note that the applicant must provide two (2) to scale plats/surveys of their property, with the application.
