Boards and Commissions

Membership on Vienna's boards and commissions provides citizens the opportunity to become actively involved in Town affairs. Applications for appointment are available in the Town Clerk's Office at Town Hall. Call 703-255-6303.

The Town Council interviews each applicant and evaluates his or her interests, education, philosophy and work experience according to the functions of the board or commission on which a vacancy exists. Many members of Council believe it is desirable to have all areas of town represented and to encompass diverse philosophies and points of view, although applicants should be in general agreement with Town policies and objectives.

Planning Commission

Approves preliminary plats of subdivisions, prepares the Comprehensive Plan for the future development of the town, hears and makes recommendations to Council on re-zoning requests and other planning and zoning matters. Meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

Please be advised that the submission of plans on a specific filing deadline date does not guarantee placement on the next available Planning Commission meeting agenda. Each such plan must meet all of the technical requirements of the Town Code and be approved by the staff at the staff review meeting. Plans that do not meet these requirements will be set aside by the staff, a list of corrections will be sent to the applicant, and revisions must then be resubmitted on or before the next filing deadline date for review at the next available staff review date.
