CURRENT OFFICERS
|
Are you currently employed as a police officer in another jurisdiction? Or serving as one in the armed forces? Then you could be eligible to become a member of the Vienna Police Department through our Lateral Officer Program.
- If you are currently certified as an officer in another state or U.S military, your application will be evaluated for employment by the Town of Vienna on a case-by-case basis based on your experience and training. You will be required to meet the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services requirements for certification and then attend our Public Safety Academy’s Lateral Transfer Course. The requirements can be found at the following links:
- This Lateral Transfer Course is approximately 9 weeks in length instead of the normal 26 weeks.
- In order to apply for this program, you must have a minimum of 2 years of certified law enforcement experience
- No rank or seniority will be transferred.
- After successful completion of the Lateral Training Course, you as an officer candidate must then complete up to four (4) months of field training.
Interested in becoming a member of the Vienna Police Department? Then complete the Personal History Statement and return it to the Administrative Services Office.
We offer an exceptional hiring package:
- Candidates selected under this program can receive up to a three-step increase in salary over the base salary, depending on experience level.
- Successful certified Virginia officers may be eligible for a signing bonus.

To participate in the lateral transfer program, you must be able to meet all Vienna Police Officer hiring qualifications plus:
- Must have law enforcement experience responsible for and perform police patrol duties in a full time capacity in a recognized law enforcement agency.
- Must be a non-probationary officer with a current law enforcement certification that is issued or recognized and approved by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services.
