Requirements


MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • H.S. Diploma or GED
  • 21 yrs of age by date of hire
  • U. S. Citizen
  • Valid drivers license with excellent record
  • Non smoker - must sign legal agreement
  • Drug-free background
  • Able to work 12 hour rotating shifts
  • Excellent physical condition




CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  1. Work Schedule: The typical workday consists of a twelve (12) hour shift. These shifts run from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Within each fourteen (14) day period, the Officer will work seven (7) days. The work schedule is on a rotating tour basis and is subject to change at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
  2. Uniforms and Equipment: All uniforms and equipment ($50.00 shoe allowance) will be furnished by the Town. All officers receive an annual dry cleaning allowance of $330.
  3. Training: Training is both on the job and at a training facility. Formal training at the Fairfax County Public Safety Academy or the Northern Virginia Regional Academy must be successfully completed or else the officer will be terminated. The probationary period begins on the initial date of hire and continues until the one year anniversary of the individual's graduation from the police officer training academy.
