Lights out policy at night / weekends.
Lights are turned off during night and weekend hours to conserve electricity. When not in use, certain lights are turned off during normal operating hours.

Non-Essential computers off at night / weekends.
All non-essential computers are shutdown at the end of each day, and during weekends.

Running non-essential servers on one power supply source, instead of two.
Most servers are equipped with two or more power supply units. This allows a server to be plugged into multiple outlets at once, in case a failure occurs in one of the units. Town servers only utilize a single power supply unit, which is connected to a battery backup system.

LED traffic lights to replace incandescent lights
LED traffic lights are brighter, last longer, and use less energy.

Automatic light switches where appropriate.
Certain rooms are equipped with motion sensors which will activate the lights automatically. After a brief period of no motion in the room, the lights automatically switch off.

What Can You Do? Ideas and Tips
  • Household Environmental Calculator
The household environmental calculator shows the energy, water, wastewater, trash, and stormwater runoff usage estimates for your home. Click here to access the calculator.

  • Recycled Products
Try to buy products that you can recycle and won't go to waste. Recycling reduces the amount of waste in landfills, saves money, conserves our natural resources, and helps maintain a clean and healthy environment.

  • Water Consumption
Spending less time in the shower every day will help reduce water consumption. Also, be mindful of how much water you use in everyday chores such as washing dishes or watering your yard. Every bit makes a difference.

  • Light Bulbs
Switching all or most of your household's light bulbs to low-energy light bulbs will be one great investment. One LED light bulb life can save an average $400 dollars in your electric bill. LED lights last longer by 50,000 hours and only use 1/10th of the energy used in a normal light bulb.

  • Reuseable Bags
When going to the grocery store, substitute non-disposable bags made from recycled material to transport your groceries instead of using the store's paper or plastic bags.
