Employee Educational Assistance Program

The Town of Vienna provides to all permanent employees financial assistance in obtaining their General Education Diploma (GED) and/or college degree. For employees who wish to earn their high school diploma, the following is available:

1. Tuition reimbursement for preparation course in an amount not to exceed the current rate(s) charged by the Fairfax County School System; and

2. Reimbursement for the cost of the exam(s) taken at an official testing center.

In order to be eligible for this program, an employee must file a request for participation to the Director of Administrative Services prior to beginning the educational program.

The educational assistance program is administered through the Office of Administrative Services. The forms needed to apply for and receive approval of enrollment in college courses are available in that office. The Administrative Services Office also maintains all of the records on the program. The Town will not reimburse an employee if he/she is eligible for V.A. funds. Tuition will be reimbursed in an amount not to exceed the current in-state rates charged by George Mason University. During each calendar year, employees can be reimbursed for up to 18 semester hours of college work.

Finally, employees must agree to retain their full time employment with the Town for a period of two years after the receipt of tuition assistance. Should an employee leave before this two-year period, he/she must repay the educational assistance payments made during the preceding two-year period. The tuition reimbursement program is different from training. Training is paid for by the Town and no minimum grade is required nor is continued employment a factor in sending an employee to a seminar.
